The Third Space: Literary Salon

  • New Street Market 70 New Street Woodbridge, England, IP12 1DX United Kingdom (map)

Finding yourself weighed down by the global scene? Lighten the mood by coming along to this tutor-led exploration of comic novels. Just turn up and enjoy chatting about selected passages. No prior reading needed; materials will be provided.

Each of these two sessions will take a brief tour through a range of comic novels. Encountering

unexpected authors such as Thomas Hardy and Virginia Woolf, we will proceed from Henry

Fielding and Jane Austen at one end, to Hilary Mantel and Salman Rushdie at the other. We will

consider a wealth of fiction that entertains as much as it instructs and stimulates, and throughout

the sessions, we will find ourselves both laughing out loud and quietly smiling to ourselves.

The evenings will comprise a short introduction to some of the important contexts and narrative methods, followed by close scrutiny of selected passages. As we will have some of the books on sale, if a work we talk about particularly interests you, you will be able to purchase it.

This event is part of Third Space. Every Wednesday, we're opening New Street Market for free or low-cost events centering community and togetherness. We'll be hosting fun, thought-provoking, and social gatherings with a wide range of vibes. Get out of the house, leave work behind you, and join us for the night.
