New Street Market x Britten Pears Arts Residency
We’re looking to find and support original voices from Suffolk doing something new and different that will make a real impact on the music scene of East Anglia and beyond.
This opportunity is for Suffolk-based artists who would benefit from a focused week of time, space and support to develop their work within the landscape and atmosphere of Suffolk.
This residency is designed for artists who have original material in development and would use the week to write, record, rehearse or shape a new set of tracks ready for performance, touring or release.
Applications are welcome from artists working across a wide range of styles, including folk, pop, jazz, soul, singer-songwriter, indie and other contemporary genres – or working outside of traditional genres.
The accommodation includes one double room and one twin room, so the residency is best suited to a solo artist, duo, trio or small group of up to four people.
A New Residency for Suffolk Musicians
What will you get?
Two artists will be selected for a week-long residency at the Red Studio in Aldeburgh. Originally commissioned for the artist Mary Potter in 1963, the property includes a dedicated studio space attached to the living accommodation, giving artists 24-hour access to a calm, self-contained environment for making, experimentation and reflection.
The Red Studio includes living and dining space, a kitchen, double bedroom, twin bedroom, shower room and garden, making it suitable for a solo artist, duo or small group to live and work on site throughout the week. The attached studio provides artists with access to a well-equipped studio with a grand piano, microphones, digital mixer, audio interface, PA system, cables and stands, supporting a range of writing, recording and rehearsal needs.
The residency offers dedicated time away from day-to-day commitments, in an inspiring coastal setting, so artists can focus deeply on developing new or existing material.
Alongside the studio time, selected artists will receive mentoring support from New Street Market and Britten Pears Arts. This support may include artistic feedback, advice on developing live performance, guidance on next steps for the work, and connections into wider professional networks.
After the residency, each selected artist will be offered paid performance opportunities at The Pumphouse in Aldeburgh and at New Street Market in Woodbridge, with the possibility of further opportunities through partner venues currently in development.
